Nyiguo Badok was appointed as a member of the National Legislative Assembly to replace Charles Wello Onyony, but the Anyuak community in Pochalla County in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) has rejected the appointment.
The appointment was made on Monday by President Salva Kiir.
In October of last year, a presidential order annulled the appointment of Wello, a member of the National Legislative Assembly for the Pochalla Constituency. His dismissal without explanation led the Pochalla Anyuak people to demand his return right now.
Nonetheless, Nyiguo was designated as Wello’s successor by President Kiir in a Monday presidential proclamation.
Andrew Cham, a community spokesperson from Anyuak, stated in an interview with Radio Tamazuj on Friday that the selection was made without consulting them.
“Wello represents us in the national parliament, and as a community, we have elected him to that role. He stated, “We should have been consulted should it become necessary to replace him. “To begin with, we ought to have been the ones to remove Wello, but we took that action on our own.” We might concur that the president has the authority to nominate and remove Members of Parliament. Still, why would the nomination originate from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area’s chief administrator and deputy.
The local official insisted that the presidential proclamation from Monday be reexamined. It is well known that throughout the past three years, we have not been at peace with Pbor. It is incorrect that the nomination originated there. We request that the president put an end to Nyiguo’s oath of office. Although Nyiguo is our kid, he is not our representative because we did not nominate him.
The Pochalla youth leader, Openyi Atii, concurred with the community’s worries and swore that they would not work with Nyiguo in the meantime.
“We share the same position as our elders. The president issued a unilateral edict without consulting us. We will not accept this nomination, which was made in an attempt to split and cause turmoil inside Pochalla. “We request that the president reevaluate his choice and confer with us,” he declared.
The former lawmaker Charles Wello, for his part, claimed that President Salva Kiir’s dismissal of him was not procedural.
It was not a procedural sacking. After being dispatched by SPLM to settle a dispute in Pochalla, I was fired while still on the job. Everyone was shocked by this. Once more, why would I be eliminated in this manner when I was elected in 2010? I was elected by the people, and the job belongs to them, thus I will take all appropriate legal action within my party, the SPLM, to contest this ruling,” he said in closing.

Yes, it is the right of the Anyuak community to appoint their representative to parliament as required by the law of South Sudan. President Kiir must listen to the voice of the minority population of Anyuak.
