Sudanese donors worldwide provided financial support on Friday to alleviate the severe humanitarian condition facing Sudanese refugees who were marooned in a forest in Ethiopia’s Amhara region.
Volunteer and camp refugee Sarah Jaafar verified that they had received funds from Sudanese philanthropists and that they had promptly set up three kitchens to address the rapidly declining food situation.
“The food situation in the forest has become catastrophic due to the large number of children and patients,” Jaafar stated.
She said that after getting the assistance, they bought the necessary food supplies to erect kitchens and give the migrants some food.
“We couldn’t bring in a lot of food because we were afraid the authorities would take it away,” Jaafar said.
She expressed her gratitude to everyone who sent money to help the Sudanese refugees who were marooned in the forest.
The predicament of the refugees who are stuck in the forest has previously been brought up by a number of Sudanese authors and artists in a request to Ethiopian President Abiy Ahmed.
