Activist Elijah Luk, welcome the Newly appointed Governor Hon. Moulana Riek Biem Top Of Unity State and appreciate Salva Kiir Mayardit for the removal of Dr. Joseph Manytuil.
The Unity state civil society activists are glad for the appointment and welcome the new state governor of Unity state. We hope to work hand in hand to bring peaceful coexistent and Unity among our people in Bentiu, Unity state.
Hon. Governor, the people of Bentiu have been oppressed for 11 years. The Civic space is closed, there is lack of freedom expression, inequality, and injustice.
Your appointment comes as a relieve to the people of Unity state; we believe your leadership will bring development and ease the long psychological trauma of our people who have suffered in the IDP camps since 2013.
The Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) has caused more harm to Human rights Activists both on National and State level. Activists have been forced to exile and this is due to poor leadership of President Salva Kiir.
As Unity state activists we demand the following:
- Open Civic space for the people of Unity state to freely exercise their constitutional rights.
- Release civil rights and political detainees who were unlawfully detained by Dr. Joseph Manytuil and Tut Gatluak.
- Open Job opportunities for youth in private sector, NGOs and Oil companies such as SPOC and GPOC.
- Resolve land Dispute between Bentiu and Ruweng Administrative area.
- Develop a strategy to return the forced exiled human right Activists, Political groups and drop treason charges.
- Establish state high courts and hold offenders accountable.
- Dissolve the white army (Terchuong in Mayom) and distant army from politic.
- Engage the local chief to solve intercommunal violence.
Thus, we strongly advice the government of Unity State and the revitalized transitional government of national unity (RTGo-NU) to uphold the constitution of the South Sudan and open civic space, allow Freedom of expression, and Justice for all citizen.
Long walk to Freedom, Men and Women
